Recently, players of The Sims 4 have faced major problems with corrupted save files after a game update. In response, the publisher unveiled a fix-it roadmap in September, detailing their strategy to resolve the biggest glitches.
Pinpointing the Root Causes
After extensive testing, developers identified two primary causes for the corrupted saves. First, scratch files—critical for game operations—are somehow disappearing, leading to total save file loss. Secondly, a different problem with lot-specific data is stuck users in infinite loading loops, possibly caused by specific construction habits like overcrowded lots, with or without modifications.
Immediate Fixes and Preventative Measures
To combat the problem of overstuffed lots, an upcoming patch will temporarily disable the bb.increaserentalunitcap command. This cheat allows players to place numerous Rental Units on Residential lots.
"We are disabling the Residential Rental Unit cheat in an upcoming update, as a preventative step while broader fixes are developed," the company stated. "While we take user freedom highly, out of an abundance of caution, this action is needed to reduce its potential risk."
However, numerous players are facing the infinite load and save corruption without using the command, leading continued analysis into excessive save file size and associated problems.
New Technologies and Ongoing Efforts
In a recent update, the developer revealed that they have created a custom Python script that helps in extracting, examining, and condensing save file data provided by the player base.
Via official channels, the company reaffirmed its dedication to resolving the issues and keeping players informed.
"We promise transparency, and although we lack all the answers yet, advancements are happening continuously," states a latest message. "Thank you your understanding, your feedback, and your passion for The Sims."
The search for a permanent fix continues, with the developer vowing to keep players updated as further details becomes available.
