PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
