19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
