Worrying Number of Users Now Vape, Reports Global Health Authority
In excess of 100 million individuals, including at least 15 million minors, now utilize e-cigarettes, fueling a new trend of nicotine habit, per recent global medical findings.
Youth are, usually, nine times more prone than grown-ups to engage in vaping, based on available international statistics.
E-cigarettes are driving a "fresh wave" of nicotine dependency, remarked a leading health representative. "They are advertised as damage limitation but, actually, are addicting youth on nicotine earlier and risk undermining generations of improvement."
Young People Being 'Aimed At'
"Countless of citizens are stopping, or refraining from tobacco use thanks to tobacco restriction efforts by nations around the world," the representative said.
"In response to this strong advancement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with recent nicotine products, actively targeting youth. Governments must respond more rapidly and more forcefully in implementing proven tobacco-control policies," the representative continued.
The e-cigarette figures are an estimate since some nations - 109 in all, and several in African and South-East Asia - lack information.
According to the study, as of this past February this year, at least 86 million e-cigarette consumers were adults, mostly in wealthy states.
And at least 15 million youth aged 13 and 15 presently engage in vaping, per studies from 123 states.
Although many nations have made efforts to establish e-cigarette rules to address underage vaping in recent years, by the conclusion of 2024, 62 states even now had no measure in place, and 74 countries had no age limit at which e-cigarettes may be purchased, states the public health organization.
Simultaneously, tobacco usage has been decreasing - from an projected 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Prevalence of tobacco use among women decreased the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
Among men, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But a fifth of grown-ups globally yet consumes tobacco.
Smoking is connected to several diseases, like cancer.
Professionals claim vaping is far less dangerous than traditional cigarettes, and can help you quit smoking. It is not recommended for non-smokers.
Vaping devices eliminate burning tobacco and do not produce black substance or toxic gas, a pair of the most damaging components in tobacco vapors. They have nicotine, which can be addictive.
